Why is Google Asking Me to Restrict My Google API Key?

InCom uses Google Maps for many map functions on our websites, and you own an API key that allows your site to use the power of Google Maps on your website. Google recommends that you restrict your API key so it can only be used on your website. This adds an extra layer of security to prevent unauthorized use of your key.

How Do I Restrict My Google API Key?

1. Log in to your Google Cloud Account

  1. Go to https://console.cloud.google.com/, then click the navigation menu in the top left corner.
  2. Select APIs & Services > Credentials.

2. Edit The API Key

  1. Click the Actions button (the three dots next to “Show Key”) and select Edit API Key.

3. Apply Restrictions

  1. Under Application Restrictions, select Websites.
  2. Then, under Website Restrictions, enter your website domain.
    1. Please enter in your domain as www.mywebsite.com
    2. Do not include anything else such as https://
  3. Scroll down and click Save.

4. Visit your website to ensure the maps are working as expected
