Why do I need to buy a domain?
A domain is like your website’s address on the internet—it’s the unique name people will type into their browsers to find your site. Just as a physical business needs a location, your website needs a domain to be accessible online. Owning a domain not only gives your site a professional touch but also makes it easier for visitors to remember and return to your website.
How do I buy a domain?
You can purchase a domain with any domain name registrar of your choice, however for this example we'll be using our sister company,
InCom Domains, as an example.
1. Search for Your Preferred Domain
- Head over to InComDomains.com, or the domain registrar of your choice.
- Click on Domain Registration and use the search bar in the middle of the screen to enter the domain name you want.
NOTE: Take your time when choosing your domain. It’s a key element of your online presence and should accurately reflect your brand. A well-chosen domain can leave a lasting impression and help establish credibility with your audience.
If the domain isn’t taken, you’ll see an exact match. Click Make it Yours and then Continue.
2. Domain Protection and Email Options
You’ll be asked if you need domain protection, which is optional. This service helps protect your personal information from being publicly available.
Next, you’ll be offered the option to add emails at your domain (e.g., yourname@yourdomain.com). This is also optional but can add a professional touch.
- After making your selections, click Continue to Cart.
3. Checkout
- Choose the registration duration for your domain, anywhere from 1 to 10 years.
- Once decided, click I’m Ready to Pay.
- You’ll need to create an account with InCom Domains by entering your email, choosing a username, and setting a password.
- Click Create Account to proceed.
- Before checking out, fill in your billing and payment information.
- After you’ve completed the payment process, you’ll receive a confirmation message indicating that your purchase was successful.
Congratulations! You now own a domain, and you’re one step closer to bringing your website to life. To complete the setup, check out our next article on how to point your newly purchased domain to our nameservers, allowing us to publish your real estate website at that domain.
